Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Fredrick Cager has spent the majority of his life and his professional career in the service of others. His professional career started in The Juvenile Court System of Memphis while serving as a residential counselor in an open house juvenile facility and then to a maximum security juvenile facility. He credits his time serving in The Court System as one of the catalysts that propelled his life into a deeper understanding of the need for leadership in the world that we now live in. Seeing the mass incarceration of minorities coupled with some of the unbalanced and unfair practices of the court system fueled a fire that burns in Fredrick to this very day. Fredrick then became the Director of Teens for The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Greater Atlanta where he began to develop his career in community development through a neighborhood initiative partnership with Taco Bell. He began to further his passion for community development partnering with one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the city of Atlanta through a neighborhood action program in the development of fair housing. His thought process of the nonprofit arena was expanded when he became a program manager for Volunteers of America, one of the nation’s largest comprehensive human services organizations with programs serving more than 1.5 million people a year in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. With a total revenue of over 1.5 billion and net assets of over 1.4 billion, it is here that Fredrick realized that it is feasible to serve humanity while building wealth in the service of the community. It is also here that he began to develop a wholistic vision of community development by reaching the entire family, touching them through an understanding of the hierarchy of needs while also being open to the complexities of each individual's path in life.
It is through this wholistic view of community development that Fredrick began to venture into television production as he wrote, produced, and created his first television program which received contract offers from The INSP Network as well as The Trinity Broadcasting Network. Although he loved the diversity and the progressive nature of the city of Atlanta, he felt that it was his responsibility to go back to Memphis to help make the city better. It was there in Memphis where he planted his first church while opening childcare centers and collaborating with others in the opening of charter schools throughout the city.
His wholistic vision began to manifest itself as children were being taught through the childcare centers, teenagers were being mentored through the mentorship programs, parents were being guided through the parenting classes while jobs were being created throughout the city. The wholistic view of community development was starting to take shape. It is also here where Fredrick produced a television program that reached viewers throughout Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, and Missouri. To expand his reach, he then started a radio program that allowed him to reach others in the city of Memphis as an on-air radio personality.
In the effort to expand the reach of a wholistic community development mindset, Fredrick passed the very programs that he created on to others and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Nevada he has served as a chaplain for the Las Vegas Fire Department, held a seat on the board of directors for Down Syndrome of Southern Nevada and now serves as a counselor for a health care organization in Las Vegas. Although Fredrick possesses a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a doctorate, he is now working on his fourth degree in psychology. All is being done to better serve society. With over 30 years of experience in the social work field, community development, ministry and so many other mediums that touch the human psyche. Fredrick views the podcast platform as an opportunity to change the narrative of what is being heard and digested by the culture of today.
